Position Summary
Afropolitan Canada is seeking an experienced and committed social work professional to serve as a Field Instructor for student placements within our community programming and advocacy initiatives. The Field Instructor will act as a Faculty in the Field, playing a critical role in mentoring and evaluating BSW or MSW students, supporting their academic and professional development during their placement at Afropolitan Canada.
This role is ideal for a social work practitioner passionate about equity-based programming, youth empowerment, and community leadership, who is committed to developing the next generation of changemakers.
Key Responsibilities

Supervision & Mentorship

Provide weekly (or bi-weekly, depending on placement days) supervision to students (individual, group, or dyadic format) to guide practice skills, knowledge, and professional values.

Ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters student growth and reflective practice.

Learning Plan Development

Collaborate with the student to design a learning plan that aligns with both academic objectives and the opportunities available at Afropolitan Canada.

Evaluation & Feedback

Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback through formal and informal evaluations.

Address areas of concern, improvement, or ethical considerations promptly and professionally.

Collaboration & Communication

Liaise with the student’s assigned Field Advisor to provide updates, resolve concerns, and ensure alignment with academic requirements.

Act as a resource and role model within the team to promote ethical and inclusive practice.
Qualifications & Requirements

Bachelor or Master of Social Work (BSW/MSW) required

Minimum of one year of employment experience within your current agency or organization

Completion of the Beginning Field Instruction Workshop (or equivalent)

Strong interpersonal, communication, and mentoring skills
-
Commitment to equity, anti-oppression, and community-centred values
-
Experience or interest in youth-focused, Black and racialized communities, or grassroots nonprofit work is an asset

Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset
