Roots and Rivers

Our program aims to bridge the gap between BIPOC communities and the outdoors. We provide tailored experiences in nature, conservation practices, and traditional outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing and hunting.

Vision

Our Roots and Rivers program aims to empower BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) individuals and families by fostering a deep connection with nature and conservation.

Recognizing the barriers and cultural disconnects that have historically limited BIPOC engagement with the Canadian outdoors, our program aims to bridge these gaps through tailored experiences in nature, conservation practices, and traditional outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing and hunting.

Our program endeavours to foster confidence, inclusion, and a sense of belonging within natural environments. By introducing BIPOC communities to outdoor spaces and empowering them to navigate these environments confidently, we are not only enriching individual experiences but also contributing to more inclusive and diverse conservation efforts.

Impact

In 2024, our Roots and Rivers program will launch with a series of immersive programs designed to connect BIPOC families with nature. Through partnerships with local conservationists and outdoor educators, we will provide a safe and supportive environment where participants can learn, explore, and enjoy the benefits of nature.

By fostering a sense of ownership and belonging in outdoor spaces, we aim to inspire a new generation of BIPOC conservationists and outdoor enthusiasts, ensuring that all Canadians can equally access, enjoy, and protect the natural world.

Family Fishing Picnic

Our Family Fishing Picnic provides a welcoming space for BIPOC families to learn the basics of casting and reeling.
