Afropolitan Canada is a bilingual Black-led non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Black, newcomer, Francophone and racialized communities through cultural programs, youth development, leadership initiatives, and community-driven events. We are seeking a passionate and organized Program Coordinator to support the design, delivery, and evaluation of our community programs.

Position Overview

The Program Coordinator will play a central role in planning, coordinating, and executing culturally responsive programs and events. This role involves working closely with community members, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders to ensure programs run smoothly and achieve meaningful impact. The ideal candidate brings strong coordination skills, creativity, empathy, and a deep commitment to community empowerment.

Eligibility Requirements

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation

Please note: due to funding requirements, individuals on temporary work permits are not eligible for this position.

Key Responsibilities

Program Planning & Coordination

  • Support the development, scheduling, and implementation of community programs, workshops, and events for Summer/Fall 2026.

  • Coordinate program timelines, tasks, and deliverables to ensure successful execution.

  • Work with team leads to refine program objectives, content, and participant experience.

  • Assist with resource planning, materials preparation, and logistics management.

Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with participants, families, volunteers, partners, and local organizations.

  • Conduct outreach to promote programs and encourage community involvement.

  • Support culturally responsive engagement strategies that reflect the needs of Black and newcomer communities.

Volunteer & Partner Coordination

  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for programs and events.

Program Administration

  • Manage participant registration, attendance tracking, and program inquiries.

  • Maintain organized records, documents, and program files.

  • Support budgeting, expense tracking, and reporting as required.

  • Assist with grant-related documentation, updates, and impact summaries.

Communications & Promotion

  • Support the creation of promotional materials (flyers, social posts, event descriptions).

  • Collaborate with the communications team to share program updates and community stories.

  • Prepare post-program reports, evaluations, and participant feedback summaries.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Assist in capturing program data and evaluating overall program effectiveness.

  • Prepare clear summaries, reports, and recommendations for improvement.

  • Ensure that programs align with organizational goals and community needs.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in program coordination, event planning, community outreach, or a related role.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with cultural sensitivity.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities, staff, and volunteers.

  • Comfortable using digital tools such as Google Workspace, Canva, MailChimp, Slack, and Notion (training can be provided).

  • Experience working in nonprofit, community development, or youth-focused environments is an asset.

  • Passion for community empowerment, cultural expression, and social impact.

  • Should be available to work on weekends as required. 

  • Must have a valid G Driver’s license and access to a vehicle for this role.
