About us

Afropolitan Canada is committed to empowering BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) communities across Canada through a focus on equity, justice, and progress.

Since its inception in 2018, the organization has raised and invested over $500,000 in supporting these communities, centering its efforts on four key pillars: Entrepreneurship, Mental Health, Life Skills, and Education.

As a bilingual nonprofit, Afropolitan Canada delivers its programs in both English and French, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity across Canada. The organization aims to foster holistic well-being, social cohesion, and economic empowerment within BIPOC communities, striving to build a future where every individual has equal opportunities to succeed.

Core Pillars

Entrepreneurship

Afropolitan Canada supports BIPOC entrepreneurs, especially women of colour, through initiatives like the Women of Diversity Summit & Awards, which celebrates their business achievements. The BIPOC Women-Led Business Directory amplifies these businesses, providing them with a platform for wider recognition. The Spotlight Discussions series further empowers entrepreneurs by offering practical tools and insights for growth.

Life Skills

The Swim to Survive program equips BIPOC individuals in Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge with essential swimming skills, promoting safety and confidence in water environments. This program is particularly important in addressing the historical exclusion of BIPOC communities from such life-saving education.

The Roots & Rivers initiative connects BIPOC communities with the Canadian outdoors through tailored experiences in nature and conservation, fostering a deep connection with nature, confidence, and inclusion in outdoor spaces.

Mental Health

We raise awareness about Black Mental Health, tackling stigma through targeted programs such as peer discussions, practitioner-led workshops, and access to culturally relevant resources. These initiatives are designed to foster well-being and resilience within Black communities. While our current efforts focus on Black mental health, we are actively working to expand our reach to other BIPOC communities, ensuring our resources are both culturally sensitive and effective in meeting diverse needs.

Education

Through the Afropolitan Scholarship Fund, the organization provides financial assistance to Black students, enabling them to pursue post-secondary education and become future leaders within their communities.
